Climate Action Team (CAT) is based in Portland, Oregon. We are a student-led team running monthly environmental programs and community events.
The Climate Action Team (CAT) is a student-led initiative where high school students plan and execute environmental programs month by month. Managing a $10,000 Portland Green Energy Fund grant, our students organize everything from outreach workshops to community events, farm visits, and sustainable transportation initiatives (so far), creating real impact in our community.
Each month, our high school grant students plan and lead a different environmental initiative. Here's our year of impact:
Student-Led: Our high school students design and deliver interactive workshops to elementary and middle school students, teaching environmental awareness, sustainability practices, and the importance of climate action. Through hands-on activities, we inspire the next generation of environmental stewards.
Student-Organized: Our students create and manage social media campaigns targeting high school peers and adults, while planning our flagship Community Night event on March 18th. Students handle everything from marketing to event coordination, featuring free food, drinks, and speakers.
Student-Coordinated: Grant students organize field trips to local farms, handling logistics, scheduling, and educational programming. Participants learn about sustainable agriculture, organic farming practices, and food production's environmental impact through this student-planned hands-on experience.
Student-Operated: Grant students establish and run a small bike repair shop, learning business operations while promoting sustainable transportation. Students provide repair services to the community, making eco-friendly transportation accessible to all.
The Climate Action Team puts high school students in charge of creating meaningful environmental impact. Through our month-by-month programs, students gain real-world experience in project management, community engagement, and environmental advocacy while building a more sustainable future for Portland.
Every event is planned, organized, and executed by student grant recipients—turning passion into action, one month at a time.
